About the Project

The Life Cultivation website was designed as a heart-based and deeply immersive digital experience that reflects Steve's teachings and mission. Through close collaboration with Steve Campbell, the design was crafted to embody calmness, clarity, and connection, ensuring that visitors are drawn into an atmosphere of peace and transformation.

I connected with Steve through my own journey and exploration of Qigong by joining his weekly beginners class. Steve's teachings are truly beautiful and he embodies all he shares in the practice of REN XUE teaching. Recognising the need for more visual storytelling, Steve engaged Matt Craven, a gifted videographer and photographer, to help bring his vision to life through stunning local video production showcasing the experience of Qigong in nature at Marcus and Sunshine Beaches over two transformative days.

Considerations & solutions

Starting Point:

A self-built WordPress website that, whilst it had served its purpose, was ready to be transformed into something more reflective of the philosophies shared by Steve.

Limited branding and dated photography wasn't capturing the true experience Steve was offering, though we were fortunate to have access to many beautiful resources from REN XUE.

Our Approach:

We collaborated closely with Steve Campbell to translate his vision into a meaningful digital presence, developing an intuitive and engaging layout that facilitates user exploration and interaction. The integration of high-quality visuals and multimedia content enhanced storytelling and learning experiences, while making booking classes and workshops more accessible and prominent throughout the site.

Every design decision was made with mobile optimisation in mind, ensuring seamless accessibility across all devices while maintaining the peaceful, contemplative atmosphere essential to the practice.

Collaboration

Steve was deeply involved throughout the redesign process, his creative input in the video production and two-day film shoot was incredible and provided a fully immersive experience for me as the designer. Matt Craven's contribution with the production and creative flair informed how the new design unfolded organically.

Patrick from KPS Systems completed the final touches of the relaunch, connecting the disjointed Google environment and implementing SEO optimisation. The collaborative process felt like a true creative partnership, with each team member bringing their unique expertise to honour Steve's vision.

Standout Moments:

Experiencing Qigong firsthand and being part of the incredible clifftop practice at Sunshine Beach was breathtakingly beautiful—an experience that deeply informed the design approach. The integration of new photography and personal images captured during the photoshoot completely transformed the design, placing authentic human connection at the heart of the visual experience.

The two-day film shoot provided a fully immersive experience that allowed the design to authentically capture the essence of Steve's teachings and the profound beauty of practicing in nature.

The seamless integration of Matt Craven's stunning videography and photography creates an immersive experience that authentically represents the transformative power of REN XUE and Qigong practice. The site has become a meaningful gateway for individuals seeking personal and spiritual development, reflecting the profound connection between mind, body, and heart that Steve teaches.

Reflections

Being part of the incredible experience of practicing Qigong on the clifftops of Sunshine Beach was transformative—connection into the energy and flow while immersed in nature is almost impossible to capture in words. The contribution of experiential photography and video was absolutely gorgeous to integrate into the storytelling.

This project perfectly demonstrated my mission of creating authentic digital experiences that honour deep personal practices and philosophies. By first becoming a student of Steve's teachings, I could approach the design from a place of genuine understanding and respect. The result is more than a website—it's a digital extension of the peaceful, transformative experience Steve offers, proving that when design is informed by authentic experience and meaningful collaboration, it can truly serve both the practitioner and those seeking their guidance.
